Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani was born in the year 470 AH (1077 CE) in the town of Jilan, in present-day Iran. He belonged to the noble family of Al-Hasan ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He was blessed with a miraculous birth, as his mother saw a vision of the Prophet (peace be upon him) before his conception, and his father heard a voice from the unseen saying "Name him Abdul Qadir, for he will be a master of all masters". He was also endowed with extraordinary intelligence, wisdom, and piety from a young age.
Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani left his hometown at the age of 18 to seek knowledge and spiritual guidance in Baghdad, the capital of the Islamic world at that time. He studied under various eminent scholars and jurists, and mastered various sciences and disciplines.
